IT’S TIME FOR ANOTHER BOBBY BERK DESIGN PROJECT REVEAL!
Good design is all about balance. So for our latest project, we took soft, feminine colors and textures and countered them with masculine and sleek materials, resulting in a home that’s in harmony – and totally modern glam.
Like our Mid-Century Modernized and Neutral & Natural projects, this home is also part of the Sandalwood community by Pardee Homes. We began the design process by embracing both ends of the design spectrum: hard and soft, light and dark, bold, and subdued. The architecture and materials of the home are quite sleek and modern, so we countered those elements with furnishings, colors, and finishes that would bring in some softness. And to balance the use of black throughout the home, we used touches of brass in lighting and accessories to add some shine, and really pump up the glam factor.
To kick off this Modern Glam reveal, today we’re sharing the entry, kitchen, dining room and living room of this home. These open spaces are the first impression of the home and have an easy flow between them that invites you in.

Nothing makes a stronger first impression in a home than a soaring double-height ceiling in the entryway. (So you’ve gotta be impressed by this one!) With plenty of windows and a set of sliding doors leading to a patio, the space is flooded with light throughout the day – keeping two large potted plants very happy. And come nightfall, a trio of saucer-shaped pendants bring in a warm glow. We kept this space open, creating an uninterrupted flow into the rest of the living spaces, while still adding visual interest through a v-shaped design in grey and black floor tile.

Passing through the entry, you’re then greeted by a bright and light living room. A sleek, textured grey stone fireplace serves as a focal point, with a pair of custom ruby red sofas balancing it visually (and adding a bold shot of color). Black accent furniture is featured throughout the room, from the tiered coffee table to the sculptural console behind the sofa, bringing in the right amount of edginess. To counter that, we chose plenty of soft and graceful elements, like textural white and patterned pillows, and curvy oversized white vase. For additional seating, a pair of Sanni Upholstered Chairs from Bobby’s line for A.R.T. Furniture fits perfectly (and is just the right amount of hard and soft). A brass chandelier and conical shade floor lamp add to the glam factor, while the Network Black Woven Wool Rug by Annie Selke is just right for some much-needed softness underfoot.

We’re definitely not scared of a dark kitchen (see this Bold & Black Kitchen for further proof), so we decided to go dramatic for this space. Utilizing a dimensional black tile for the backsplash, we created contrast between the sleek cabinetry- and kept the kitchen from looking to flat or simple. Adding an oversized island and counter in white quartz also helps break up the lines of the dark walls and lighten things up. For further visual interest, we brought in sleek counter stools, a faucet with brass accents, and a dusty shade of pink paint (yes, you CAN paint a kitchen pink!) Warm wood accessories, graphic artwork, and black dinnerware add the finishing touches.

For maximum contrast in the dining room, we stuck to a palette of black, white, and pink that emphasized the geometric shapes in the room. The dining table and chairs are both strong sculptural elements, and the oversize round mirror and Stand Cylinder Shade Table Lamps from Rejuvenation both mimic the circular forms. A collection of vases and a brass bowl further the geometric influences on top of the table, and the delicate chandelier is equal parts graphic and glam. While white draperies bring a much-needed softness (and help emphasize the height of the room).
